Integrated Management of Business Travel Transactions

Objetivo

The proposal aims at giving to a user in a corporation a set of user-friendly tools to conduct within a trusted and a secure business environment travel related transactions on open networks in an interactive way (browsing on the Internet) using innovative devices such as: a multi-application EMV chip-card, a secure IC card reader and a GSM device.

The project aims at conducting a trial using an innovative multi-application chip-card embedding a Java machine. It intends to demonstrate how the card will be used to secure the access to remote travel services, to authenticate the user in the proposed virtual environment, to enforce the integrity of the exchange of information, to provide digital signature, to carry travel-related information (e.g. an airline ticket) and to effect the payment. The card will be used with the GSM device to get access to the user's travel file, to obtain from a travel services provider various travel related services such as: airline tickets or boarding passes, railway tickets and access to a hotel room or a rented car.

Work description:
Work will start with the design of a generic Business Model involving all parties involved in the proposed model. The Business Model will identify the business and security requirements needed to be taken into consideration prior to the design of the related architectures. Based on the outcome of the Business Model and taking into consideration the functional and security requirements, a Functional and a Security Architecture will be built.

A pilot will be constructed in view of the trial. The construction of the pilot will be carried out in two distinct phases: a first phase will address the issue of technical specifications (e.g. messages, data elements). Those specifications will be, either re-used when they correspond to official or industry standards or they will be drafted from scratch when such standards do not exist.

A second phase will address the implementation and integration of the above technical specifications. The purpose of the implementation process consists of converting the proposed specifications into running code for each part of the Functional and Security Architectures. The integration process addresses the need to put together all programmes and software applications resulting from the implementation process so that the pilot is viewed as a single and integrated solution.

Construction will allow the project team to gather feedback from potential c-TRAVEL users at an early stage of the project. Early software integration and customisation activities will result in the delivery of a prototype that will undergo validation within the Consortium users/partners business/IS environments.

The final validation, i.e. a real-life trial, will be carried out by users at large, from both inside and outside the Consortium.

Milestones:
Four milestones have been identified for the project and incorporated in the Workplan:
i) c-TRAVEL business modelling and information systems (end month 3) - Review Criteria : (RC) : soundness of business model; compliance of IS model;
ii) c-TRAVEL first prototyping (M11) and validation exercise (M13) - RCs : wide acceptance of business model; significant technical input on IS model ;
iii) c-TRAVEL operational version and large scale trial (M17) ;
iv) marketing plan for exploitation of assets (M18).
