Objective
The ISPDM project will trial emerging "standards", data warehousing and web technology to create an open Industry Standard Pipeline Data Management system, ISPDM, that can be easily accessed by business, engineering and other applications using the business objects concept. The European pipeline industry sector is incurring unnecessary costs, losing revenue and competitive advantage and exposing the EC to risk due to the significant difficulties in introducing new Risk Based design, inspection and maintenance process and moving to a collaborative "goal" setting environment. This is due, in large part, to the difficulty in locating, accessing and exchanging data.
New data standards and business objects will be defined, a trial ISPDM system developed and applications modified for tests to demonstrate and compare the potential benefits. Significant efficiency saving, new working methods and the potential to develop new products and services will be identified together with wider economic and social benefits. The results will be widely disseminated and a clear exploitation strategy developed.
