ExpAnding MEDiterranean IT MaRketS for Europe

Objective

The main aim of Medressa II is to provide access for European SMEs in the Information Technology domain to emerging markets in the South Mediterranean Countries (SMCs). It will strengthen business co-operation by bringing providers (EU) and users/intermediaries (SMC) together at five technology brokerage events in each of the six SMCs involved. It will provide focused analyses of local markets and their opportunities for the relevant ICT developed in Europe. The final aim is a Technology Brokerage facility across covering the European countries targeted towards the SMCs through which EU companies and research institutions can find business partners in the SMCs, and SMC institutions search for technology and solutions for their identified market and development needs.

Work description:
The main operational structure of Medressa II has the following components:The SMC network: The SMC partners are part of the Medressa organisation providing the link and the access to potential partners in their countries. They will identify the market needs, organising the Medressa Technology Brokerage events (4 events in each of the 6 SMCs) and providing the subsequent evaluation. Their findings will be fed back to the EU side of the project for dissemination. An important aspect of this networking activity will be to establish a network across the SMCs in order to foster ""regional co-operation and integration"" as postulated in the Barcelona declaration. Dissemination in Europe: To ensure widespread and regular dissemination, the European partners of Medressa II will provide regular articles for the national IT related newspapers. These will focus on the technological development or the IT needs in specific sectors, present IT products from Europe that are applicable in the SMCs, and the resulting success stories from the dissemination events. In addition to the dissemination through the printed medium a Web site will be installed. Medressa already has by now a well-known own domain (www.medressa.com). This site will be continued and made more interactive. The backbone of web site will be a database containing available products or research results from Europe that are applicable in the SMCs and whose owners want to get into that market. It will also contain organisations who seek business and RTD co-operation across the two regions and information on the relevant SMC industrial sectors and their development.

Milestones:
The expected results are a widely increased awareness of the potential of SMC markets at the European SME community and a number of business liaisons between EU and SMC partners. This will be achieved through regular publications in specialised European IT Newspapers and dissemination workshops in the SMCs with strong European SME participation. Four Milestones are defined as assessment points, coinciding with the Dissemination Workshops in the six SMCs.
