Advanced NeTwork radio Identification equipment for Universal Mobile communications

Objective

The ANTIUM project proposes to develop innovative radio measurement system concerning the planning of mobile radio networks. In particular, the aims will be to provide identification based on radio analysis of co-channels users of the network. The operator or the regulator will use such system to improve the performance and qualify the regulation of their networks. The project will study adequate signal processing algorithms for UMTS (FDD and TDD) and DVB-T systems. A demonstrator will also developed in order to qualify the algorithms and principles developed in a real environment. This demonstrator will focus on verification of equivalence between user needs and resulting elements given by the equipment.

OBJECTIVES
For the deployment of multimedia mobile radio networks, the capacity of identifying base stations in the field will be necessary, and the classical trace mobile will not be sufficient. The ANTIUM project will focus on UMTS (FDD and TDD) and DVB-T future networks and will have the following objectives:
1 Define the requirements of an advanced radio monitoring equipment;
2 Develop or adapt signal processing techniques compatible with the requirements of this equipment;
3 Develop a demonstrator implementing the selected techniques;
4 Realise field tests with the demonstrator;
5 Disseminate project results.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK
The work will be divided in six workpackages:
- WP1 : project co-ordination tasks, allowing technical and financial management, assessment and evaluation of the project, and reporting to the EC;
WP2: analysis of the future radio network planning rules, for the requirement concerning co-network identification. These elements will allow selecting specific operational scenarios for UMTS (FDD and TDD) and DVB-T systems, and associated targeted performance for the future radio monitoring equipment;
WP3: algorithmic study that will focus on dedicated algorithms adapted to the scenarios selected in WP2, with the aim of being able to detect, separate, demodulate, decode and identify UMTS (FDD and TDD) and DVB-T BTS transmitters;
WP4: development of a demonstrator, including array receiver and digitizer, and implementing selected signal processing algorithms. The demonstrator will be able to acquire signals on a selected UMST (FDD and TDD) and DVB-T channels and to realise off-line processing in order to detect and to identify signals and transmitters;
WP5: integration of the testbed in a vehicle and realisation of field tests on UMTS (FDD and TDD) and DVB-T tests network,- WP6 : valorisation work of the project by partners, including definition of the Technological Implementation Plan, participation to technical conferences and dissemination in standards bodies. Since there is no TDD equipment available before the end of ANTIUM project, the field tests and then the demonstrator development (the demonstrator is to test real networks, otherwise it is ""unless"") will concern only UMTS FDD and DVB-T. However, since TDD is an integral part of UMTS, the ANTIUM project take into account the TDD mode in WP2, WP3 and WP6 (algorithmic study, market study, demonstrator requirements, dissemination) for preparing the future integration of TDD component of the demonstrator.
