Promotion and Dissemination of the Mobile Information Society

Objective

Mobile networks serve millions of people within the EU and new techniques are developed in order to improve performance and provide new services for citizens of EU. Currently many active EU projects concerned with mobile systems are complementary to each other. Therefore repackaging, documenting and disseminating the results of the IST mobile projects among project teams will enhance the research outcome and enable collaboration between the projects. Furthermore, this project will support standardisation and European involvement in global regulatory activities. Finally, the project will contribute to dissemination of information on and promotion of wireless communication services to the European society. The objectives will be achieved through the collaborative efforts of a consortium of highly qualified institutions and organisations, including private companies. Results will be publication of books, CD-ROMs and a web site.

OBJECTIVES
The objectives of the PRODEMIS project are the following: To enable co-operation, collaboration and exchange of information between the project teams of the IST mobile projects under Key Action IV.5, in order to create a synergy effect between the projects involved. To assist the project teams by providing updated information on international research and technological development within the area of mobile communication. To contribute to development of standards and regulation within mobile communications. To give rise to new projects under the IST programme, mobile communication area. To disseminate information on and promote the spreading of the mobile information society in the European Union.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK
The project consortium will collect information from the IST mobile projects under Key Action IV.5, will evaluate, repackage and disseminate it to all project teams involved. International research and technological development within the area of mobile communication will be monitored via international technical scientific press, international conferences and workshops, company announcements and personal contacts and networks. The information thus collected will be repackaged, documented and disseminated to all project teams within the IST mobile area as well as being made publicly available. It will also feed into the development of just-in-time market driven standards and inputs to global regulatory bodies. The consortium will arrange: Three annual public and international IST Summits with discussions on the progress of the IST mobile communication programme; a number of intermediary workshops and symposia for particular subjects within the IST, Area IV.5 and one international electronic conference towards the end of the PRODEMIS project. Results from these events will be produced as part of the project deliverables and will be made publicly available. Finally, the consortium will prepare 3 volumes of books, including for each volume a CD-ROM with references and supplementary material. These books will give a good overview of the technological development within the area of mobile communications, including the IST mobile projects, as well as outline future plans and perspectives within the area. As part of the dissemination and promotion activities a web-site which will feature upcoming events, latest news, overview of results and announcement of new mobile projects, will be prepared. The web-site will include both a public mailing list and a mailing list restricted to IST project teams only. The provision of this facility will give anyone interested the possibility of obtaining information about the state-of-the-art in mobile communication.
