Distributed Integrated Environment for Configuration Management

Objectif

In both the European aerospace and automotive industries there is an increased requirement to model, validate and provide tool support for cross-organisational product configuration management (PCM), within the context of a virtual enterprise. DIECoM will build on the results of two previous Framework 4 funded projects: AdCoMS (Esprit Project 22167) and VISCOUNT (Esprit Project 25754). DIECoM proposes to develop a generic business process model for PCM and to address a unified approach, through the development of a XML-based PCM meta-data format, to represent and manage product, electrical and software data.
The approach will be realised by the development of a pilot demonstrator, based on a defined IT infrastructure and built with Internet-enabled COTS components.

Two scenarios will be used to validate the research, from two different industrial sectors;
both scenarios will be within the context of multi-site, multi-partner projects.

Objectives:
1. To define an industry validated Generic PCM Process Model for complex industrial products and to use this to define a common set of agreed and validated PCM procedures and rules for distributed product development in a virtual enterprise.
2. To influence software developers to accelerate the availability of commercial PCM-compliant solutions.
3. To develop a pilot demonstrator to validate the PCM procedures within the context of defined test scenarios.
4. To exploit and disseminate the results in the appropriate European industries and thereby accelerate their uptake.

Work description:
The major work packages in DIECoM are:
1. The development of a generic business model for distributed PCM within a virtual enterprise. This will be applicable to all user partners' businesses involved in product data definition and will support collaborative working across all businesses involved in an aerospace or automotive development project. The generic business model extends to all phases of product development. It will be documented in UML and formally defined in Process Specification Language (PSL) to guarantee its completeness and correctness.
A definition of a unified PCM meta-data model in XML will also be defined to facilitate heterogeneous tool communication. Two industry specific test scenarios will be defined;
2. The definition of the IT infrastructure to be used in implementing DIECoM compliant PCM objects and functions. This will facilitate the implementation of the DIECoM pilot demonstrator and will allow the most vital infrastructure elements to be tested;
3. Define the detailed requirements and software components of the pilot demonstrator and evaluation environment. The aim of the pilot is to demonstrate the improvement in competitiveness that the results of DIECoM will bring;
4. Implement and evaluate the pilot demonstrator to address the two business scenarios;
5. Disseminate and Exploit the achieved results in the appropriate European Industries and thereby accelerate their uptake.

Milestones:
Milestones and main expected results are:
T0 + 12: M1 Generic Business Model and Meta-data format;
T0 + 22: M2 Validated Pilot Demonstrator;
T0 + 12: M3 Exploitation Plan for all partners;
T0 + 24: M4 Final Version of Exploitation and Implementation Plan for all partners.

Programme(s)
