Integrated business processes and methods for Electronic Procurement and Marketplaces

Objetivo

The openXcahnge overall scientific and technological objective is to build up a framework for the exchange of business objects, to enable complete business process integration. OpenXchange will not be an isolated solution, but will come with a translation module for formats that are already widely-accepted (e.g. BMEcat or CBL). In contrast to existing approaches, openXchange will cover both the internal and external supply chain. It will be developed in close collaboration with companies from different industries to quarantee a cross-industry applicability, and therefore the project is focused of real European user needs and emerging standards. With openXchange transaction framework companies will be able to build up new added value organisations e.g. virtual enterprises. OBJECTIVES
The overall openXchange project objective is to build up a framework for the exchange of business objects to enable complete business process integration. A commonly agreed set of business transactions will be defined and a prototype software tool will be developed that converts the proprietary document formats to the standardised transactions. Since the primary objective is very extensive in scope the following secondary objectives are defined for the openXchange project:-completeness of document set in terms of functional applicability (purchase order, invoice etc.)-definition of conversion rules and transformations to the other initiatives(e.g. xCBL and BMEcat)-coverage of both external and internal supply chain-cross-industry and international applicability-high acceptance in both large and small and medium-sized companiesIn order to ensure the achievement of objectives, the openXchange framework will be supported by the openXchange Component Model. The openXchange Component Model is a modular software architecture that allows highly flexible and scalable deployment.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK
The openXchange project work plan follows a user-driven, object-oriented approach. In accordance to the programme?s overall aim to focus on user requirements, an ""as is"" analysis will form the project starting point and the backbone of all subsequent work. The following list of subsequent tasks gives a rough overview on the work that will be done within the openXchange project scope:-identification and analysis of relevant business processes-state-of-the-art analysis on modelling tools and existing standardisation initiatives in the field -establishing contact to international standardisation bodies and initiatives (e.g.W3C)-preparation of business and technical design for the openXchange Component Model-preparation of software development plan-technical specification of relevant business transactions based on requirements analysis-specification of detailed technical designs-development of version 1.0 of prototype-employment of prototype on pilot user sites-evaluation of prototype version 1.0 pilot employment-repitition of the previous steps with version 2.0 and 3.0 in a highly iterative approach-evaluation of pilot site deployment results based on previously defined procedure. Besides these tasks project management and exploitation activities will be conducted permanently during the entire project duration. Both are highly relevant in order to guarantee an efficient flow of information within the consortium and to ensure effective dissemination.
