Network on Sensing, Identification and Data COMmunications with passive non-contact technologies

Objectif

The use of microelectronics to enable passive non-contact technologies for sensing, identification and data communications is well established with respect to the technologies used. However, these technologies are insufficiently deployed in many areas and applications of significant technological and economic benefits especially within Small and Medium Enterprises. The SIDCOM proposal is addressing the use of these technologies as a Best Practice Take-up Action. A series of about thirteen focused Demonstrator Projects will be done within the duration of the project by a set of Small and Medium Enterprises guided by four Technology Centres of Expertise (TCE). These four TCEs are spread over Europe, and during the monitoring process of the Demonstration Project, these TCEs will record the experiences and will convert them into Demonstrator Documents to do targeted dissemination actions towards other companies facing similar problems.

Objectives:
The main objective of the SIDOCM project is to stimulate the use of passive non-contact technologies for sensing, identification and data communication within European Small and Medium Enterprises:
1) Set-up of the SIDCOM network and collaboration with other take-up actions;
2) Successful start, running and completion of about thirteen foreseen Demonstration Projects by user enterprises to demonstrate the benefit of the technology;
3) Continuous recording of Best Practices during the Demonstration Projects;
4) Optimum realisation of dissemination materials (Training material, Demonstrator Document, WWW site) summarising the recorded Best Practices and the technical and economical results of the project;
5) Optimum dissemination of the extracted material throughout Europe to exploit the project results and to stimulate the Best Practice adoption of the experiences gained in the project and their replication.

Work description:
The work will consist of five work packages for the network activities of the Technology Centres of Expertise (TCEs) plus one additional work package per Demonstration Project (DP):
-WP1, Co-ordination of the network: This WP will set-up an efficient network management and will monitor the overall project in order to meet the objectives and the deliverables;
-WP2, Project Execution Board: This WP will include the definition of:
a) guidelines to guarantee a successful project start;
b) training material;
c) common monitoring mechanism to guarantee a continuous recording of Best Practices throughout the DP execution, d) dissemination strategy and exploitation plan;
-WP3, Monitoring of the about thirteen DPs: This WP will include the set-up of the Associated Contracts. Throughout the project execution, the project will be monitored to meet the deliverables and Best Practices will be recorded;
-WP4, Links with similar EC FW5 actions: This WP will establish suitable links with other EC funded take-up actions to enhance the European added value of the project;
-WP5, Best Practice extraction exploitation: This WP will include the consolidation of the results in a Demonstrator Document. Suitable dissemination activities will be done including the publication of the results via WWW, the participation to selected fairs and exhibition, a dissemination brochure, the organisation of a dissemination day and to give training to companies considering the replication of a DP;
-WP6 to WPx, Demonstration Project: Within these WPs a successful Demonstration Project will be performed by the participating SME and support to the associated TCE will be given to successfully write a Demonstrator Document capturing the Best Practice and the technical and economical results achieved.

Milestones:
The major milestones and results are:
-Month 03: 10 Demonstration Projects (DP) started, training material available;
-Month 06: Guidelines for Demonstrator Documents defined, 3 additional DPs started;
-Month 08: Information about Demonstrator Projects available via WWW;
-Month 12: Common dissemination plan defined;
-Month 18: All Demonstrator projects have been finished successfully;
-Month 24: Dissemination plan has been carried out. Project results stimulated start of about 10 replications.

Champ scientifique (EuroSciVoc)
