Protecting Accumulated Intellectual Data for Accounting in Real-time

Objective

The Trial adopts not already established leading edge technology for protecting and usage measuring of Intellectual Property (IP) content and software for e-commerce models in different fields. The PAIDFAIR partners from four European countries therefore supply new applications. The suppliers will benefit from a faster exploitation and the users have the chance for an early competitive advantage. The ultimate strategic goal is setting a worldwide standard for payment for IP content and software usage. The trial is proposed to give trust and confidence for software and IP content vendors and users. This is solved by a protection and accounting system in this fields: ESD and pay-per-use, distribution of music content, e-payment and authentication with Smart Card, IP distribution through broadcast/multicast and satellite communication, biometrical authentication and downloads for MHP set-top- box.

Objectives:
The ultimate strategic goal is setting a worldwide standard for payment for IP content or software use according to the slogan: Fair Pay-Per-Use.
The innovations used in protection and accounting use the latest encryption algorithms (Rijndael, Elliptic curves),use public key schemes for secure downloading of usage credits. One accounting hardware can be used independently by many vendors for many products.
Technical objectives are demonstration systems in fields of secure electronic software distribution and pay per use, distribution of music content,e-payment and authentication integration with Smart Card, IP Distribution through broadcast/multicast and satellite communication, biometrical authentication and secure downloads for open Multimedia Home Platform (MHP)set-top-box.
To have positive effect on the cooperation activities and economical factors a comprehensive measurement will be undertaken. All participants disseminate the business cases at suitable public events.

Work description:
The accompanying phase will be done for the successful outcome and coordination of all partners and activities. The coordinator will participate in public events and other Best Practise Pilot clusters aimed to maximize the visibility and impact of the trial.
The assessment and requirements definition includes a detailed specification of the state of the art, scope and requirements of each user. Anticipated benefits and associated metrics will be clearly identified. Result of the planning activity will be a detailed plan for the deployment, training, evaluation and refinement.
Adaptation and implementation phase involves deployment, adaptation and fine-tuning of the different defined tasks by the PAIDFAIR consortium.
These are mechanisms for secure offline accounting of software or IP usage, improvements to existing technologies to protect software interactively, improved schemes against cracking and of security mechanisms, secure transfer of credits into accounting hardware, implementation of the new software market model.
Integration of Smart Card for authentication and e-payment, integration of broadcast solutions with PC satellite receiver and Multimedia Home Platform (MHP).Next adaptations are for digital distribution engine for usage with ESD-based software and ASP-based versions, in vertical electronics engineering portal and for distribution of music content. A biometric based authentication system, validated time and date stamp receiving and e-Commerce solutions with ERP software will be the last demonstration systems.
Training will help the users to understand coherences and the technical, social and process oriented challenges. This leads to a straightforward combination of the evaluation according to the set-up metrics. It 's an iterative process with refinement and correction. In parallel, the benefits and lessons learnt will be documented in the form of well understandable business cases. All participants disseminate the business cases at public events.

Milestones:
M1:Detailed specification of the scope and of the technological and methodical requirements. Potential benefits and associated metrics will be identified by the measurement preparation;
M2:Detailed implementation plan for solution implementation, the necessary training and the evaluation and refinement;
M3:Adaption and implementation regarding to specifications of M2;
M4 Preparation of business cases and demonstration systems plus documentation, dissemination activities and web-site preparation.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
