Objective
The widespread use of electronic mail for private, public and commercial communication has helped to drive the Information Technology revolution to new heights providing a fast, efficient and simple system for the transferring of information from one part of the globe to another. However, the success and reliability of the system is being undermined by poor security with attached documents being highly susceptible to corruption, third party interference (viruses) and outright theft. To resolve this problem the project will design and develop a low-cost, fitted-as-standard PC-card that is capable of transferring high-resolution images and text from one computer to another in less than a minute, bypassing the internet and using direct access via the telephone communication networks. The modulation and compression protocols will enable the transfer signal to be encrypted while ensuring that the picture quality will be high enough for military/medical type applications.
