Objective
The main objective of this project is to set up a large-scale intercontinental Grid testbed that will focus upon advanced networking issues and interoperability between Grid domains. This testbed will be developed by the partners of this project in conjunction with the DATAGRID project in Europe and the GriPhyN and PPDG projects in the USA. Complementary proposals with similar goals are being prepared within the framework of PPDG and GriPhyN in the United States.
The major objectives of this project are: to establish a high performance intercontinental Grid testbed, to demonstrate advanced end-to-end network services across multiple domains, to perform bulk data transfer validation and applications performance monitoring, to study and implement interoperability mechanisms between the US and European Grid domains and complemented by an active dissemination activity.
Work description:
The project workplan consists of a number of closely related workpackages that are designed to complement each other and reach the ultimate goal of developing an intercontinental testbed for Grid research between the European Union and the United States.
The work is split into six work packages:
WP1 - Infrastructure provision and operation;
WP2 - High performance networking research for the Grid;
WP3 - Bulk data transfer validations and application performance monitoring;
WP4 - Interoperability between Grid domains;
WP5 - Information dissemination and exploitation;
WP6 - Project Management
Milestones:
The Data TAG project will demonstrate the creation of a large-scale intercontinental Grid testbed that focuses upon advanced networking and interoperability between Grid domains.
The project has three major milestones:
M1- construction of an intercontinental Grid testbed;
M2 - demonstration of high performance end to end networking services across multiple domains and;
M3 -demonstration of interoperability of different Grid projects in a transatlantic context using real applications.

Topic(s)
Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
