European Network of Services for Women Health Management

Resultado final

The web reference site is registered as http://www.womanlab.com. This is a multilingual web site where women and health-professionals can find useful information regarding menopause. The site distinguishes between women and the health-professional users to offer focused information with the appropriate terminology. Starting from the global web site, users can access the local web sites, according to the place they live or the interests they have, and also use on-line interactive services offered by local Clinics such as on-line consulting or booking of exams and visits. In particular, the on-line consulting feature allows women and health-professionals in a structured and easy way (i.e. by using a guided procedure - Wizard) to fill in a multi-form and ask clinicians questions for a second opinion or for remote consulting. The structured form is useful for clinicians to have useful information and to easily read the sent data. At registration time, an identification code is associated with the request of information to let the clinician easily identify the patient in case of her visit at the Clinic and to protect privacy. A privacy level has been adopted to make users give their explicit consent to send their data. The Information Web services offered to women and clinicians are implemented as a set of software modules, developed by using Internet, JAVA-based technologies. The services represent, in terms of contents and features offered to the users, the current state-of-the-art in the field of post menopause at a European level. A competitor of the WOMAN solution has been identified in US: the Obgyn network (www.Obgyn.net). Currently, possible exploitation routes are being explored with the Obgyn management and decision makers, in order to implement joint exploitation strategies in Europe.
This is a web-oriented desktop system to help clinicians in their daily work. The system is made of different modules: - The Electronic Patient Record application, an intranet system to follow up the patient and store menopause information with a structured protocol (thus allowing a connection with other departments and laboratories, such as Radiology, etc.). - The Statistic Tool to perform statistics on local data and anonymous statistics on distributed databases around the WOMAN Network. - The Extranet Tool, to extract and to send a single patient data in a anonymous and protected way (XML) to a colleague for a second opinion. - The Tele-Consulting Tool to use videoconference among Centres and to discuss specific patient cases. An innovative architecture has been adopted to manage distributed databases in a secure way with the support of the XML language. The Electronic Patient Record is a Web application developed by using JAVA-based technologies. The solution implemented in WOMAN has been selected by the EMAS (the European Menopause and Andropause Society) as the standard Electronic Patient Record in the post-menopause field, thus representing de facto the state-of-the-art at European level in the specific field.
The booking service allows women and health-professional to book appointments for specific tests to be performed at the Clinical Centre. The system offers a graphical tool to select the time range and to make the booking of a test, in the preferred day and hour. A security level is required when accessing the service to avoid unwanted users. The booking service is a Web application developed by using JAVA-based technologies. Similar solutions have been developed world-wide in many different sectors other than the healthcare field: the number of local healthcare units in Europe, and particularly in the EC countries involved in the project, offering the users the possibility to book appointments for specific clinical tests through the Internet is currently not significant. The service has been re-shaped and adapted to the needs of other market sectors, such as the tourism and entertainment industry.
