Objective
The purpose of PANACEIA-ITV is to facilitate essential lifestyle changes and to promote compliance with scientifically sound self-care recommendations through the application of interactive digital television for family health maintenance through home care. The means to achieve these goals PANACEIA-ITV is based on technological, health services and business models. PANACEIA-ITV is looking for communication of monitoring microdevices with I-TV set boxes using infrared technology, and embodiment of analogous H/W and S/W in the I-TV set boxes. Moreover, interactive digital TV services will be developed for the delivery of the home care environment.
Objectives:
Technology: Develop communication means between I-TV and microdevices capable of recording simple, daily routine measurements through infra-red communication.
Health services: Through the use of ITV, provide easily accessible high information contented educational and health prevention / monitoring material. It can involve experts from various points of health care delivery, trigger focus groups sessions, and provide easily accessible, usable and cost effective health care services linked mainly with prevention and increased quality of life.
Business models: the creation of a business scheme that can glue together different competences such as information coding/processing, cable TV services, micro device manufacturers, telecommunication manufacturers, medic l service provision centres, contact centres.
Work description:
Family health maintenance will be supported through scheduling of essential preventive care services, encouragement for lifestyle changes, and education on issues of health and illness.
Based on interactive digital television technology the following system components will be developed:
(i) TV set top box supporting communication with simple home monitoring devices like weight scale, blood pressure measurement, and videocamera;
(ii) Interactive Digital TV services supporting the delivery of a home care;
(iii) access to a contact centre to manage the interactive family health maintenance service of a large number of users;
(iv)Internet-based services for the delivery of complementary health educational services and products.
