Asset Management Integration of Cultural Heritage inthe Interexchange between Archives - The StoryboardExtension

Objective

The project includes a partner of the newly associated states (NAS) into an existing IST project (AMICITIA, IST-1999-20215). The new partner enhances the technological competence and the work force in respect to interactive and collaborative Internet / intranet technologies. The project proposed aims to develop and demonstrate a software component for the content management system developed by the AMICITIA project. This new component provides a collaborative facility to write, share and edit storyboards in conjunction with digital video archives. OBJECTIVES
The AMICITIA-SE project extends the existing AMICITIA project (IST-1999-20215)with a competent new technology partner from the newly associated states (NAS).AMICITIA-SE aims to develop, implement and demonstrate a storyboarding facility that extends the Content management system developed in the AMICITIA project. The storyboard extension provides a story-based collaborative retrieval and creation of media contents. The user is enabled to search, collect, annotate and arrange media objects from available archives in a collaborative, team-oriented way. Using collaborative internet technology the storyboarding extension makes full use of the distributed archiving features developed in the AMICITIA project. Additionally the AMICITIA-SE provides export functionalities for the storyboard extension to serve the needs of the broadcasting users and their customers.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK
The workflow in today's television archives has been analysed within the AMICITIA project (IST-1999-20215, Work Package 3). It has turned out that there's a strong demand for a collaborative storyboarding facility, which allows a team to collect, annotate and arrange media contents out of available archives. The storyboard extension is a valuable upgrade to the content management system developed in the AMICITIA project. The requirement analysis will be refined in respect to the storyboarding tools crutinizing the 4 user partners (three broadcasting companies and one archiving foundation) of the consortium. The new technology partner will then specify and implement a first demonstrator implementation. The user partners will evaluate the demonstrator to provide further improvements. Then the implementation will be finalized and integrated into the existing AMICITIA system. An important feature is the export functionality of the storyboarding extension, which will be extended in the last phase of the project. The AMICITIA-SE project will be embedded into the already running AMICITIA project in every respect. Management, dissemination and exploitation of the AMICITIA-SE project will be included into the running project using the same procedures and strategies. The evaluation is extended to the storyboard extension as well to ensure a powerful and reliable content management system.
