Objective
eXPERT will define a light approach for software development of e-projects, complementing the eXtreme Programming (XP) and Personal Software Process TM (PSP) principles. XP addresses projects with high quality demands, frequently changing requirements, tough schedule and budget. The PSP focuses on the work practices of engineers and teaches how to produce quality software. eXPERT will take into account the factors of success/failure of e-business and e-commerce projects and will reflect them in its application guidelines. The consortium will build up a network of Centres of Expertise (CE) with nodes in Spain, Germany and Bulgaria. User companies will be linked to the local CE.7 pilot project will be run to explore the benefits of eXPERT. The CE will provide support to the SME attached in applying the eXPERT approach, analyse their achievements and pitfalls, collect lessons learnt, and disseminate the results to SME in their regions.
Objectives:
eXPERT objective is to define a light approach for e-business and e-commerce software development, to try it out to 7 pilot projects, to collect lessons learnt and to disseminate the results via a network of Centres of Expertise and User companies associated to them. The project will teach developers in different SMEs, how to work effectively in an atmosphere of often changing requirements; to construct the simplest system that has business value; to accurately estimate development work to avoid schedule slips, over costs; to work effectively with the customers; to maintain software code in top condition. The main business objective is to increase the productivity of small teams by 20%, to reduce defect rates by 30%, project costs by 15%, as well as to eliminate schedule delays and over costs. The dissemination activities aim at providing a wide range of SMEs abilities to meet the increasing flexibility, quality and time-to-market demands with highly skilled and communicative people.
Work description:
In order to meet the project objectives, the activities have been structured into a number of packages, with the following objectives:
WP 1 - Preparatory Trainings - To define the combined eXPERT approach. To prepare the preliminary training that has to be done to the participants from the User companies. To carry out the trainings;
WP 2 - Preparation of Experiments-To define project success/failure factors and respective measures as well as the experiment assessment criteria and methods (depending on the experiment type and aims). To make a general plan of experiment performing and reviewing;
WP 3 - WP9 -To apply the eXPERT method into the pilot projects. To examine its contribution to achieving the business goals of each user company and the potential pitfalls;
WP 10 - Analysis and Measurement of Experiment Results - To review each one of the experiments and to analyse their achievements. To revise the measures of success of the experiments as well as the assessment criteria and methods. To update the lessons learnt repository with conclusions drawn from the latest experiment analysis. To benchmark the realized solutions;
WP 11- Dissemination of Results- To define a detailed dissemination strategy. To create and maintain a project web site with information about XP, PSP, eXPERT, and useful information about their usage. To launch a discussion forum on the subject. To disseminate the project results at six events during the project and after its end. To distribute the Best Practice Toolkit to at least 30 European SMEs doing e-business or e-commerce;
WP 12 - Project Management and Control - To apply the available knowledge, skills, tools and techniques to the project activities in order to achieve its goals. This involves balancing between project scope, schedule, quality, partner's needs, and EC commission expectations.
Milestones:
Milestone 1:eXPERT approach defined. Training on it carried out. E-project success/ failure factors classified. Pilot projects planed; assessment criteria for them determined;
Milestone 2, 3:Interim reviews of the experiments made. Criteria and methods for assessing their results revised. Lessons learnt repository updated;
Milestone 4:Pilot projects completed. Case studies about each experiment collected;
Milestone 5: Analysis of pilot project achievements made. Benchmarking study completed. Results disseminated.
