Data centric WEB Services Integrator

Objective

WebSI will develop and demonstrate three suites of tools for developing data-centric Web applications in the ASP framework. The Web Site Design Suite will focus on tools to assemble Web applications on high-level, graphic user interfaces, thus generating personalized Web sites, and deploying them according to the ASP Model. The Service Composition Suite will provide composition abstractions in order to compose Web Services into more complex businesses. The Data Integration Suite will provide primitives for collecting and integrating data from multiple sources, and security mechanism to data control access. The three tool suites will be usable within the ASP Infrastructure Layer, providing also the hosting of internal services and databases. Three applications will be developed to help focusing the design on real problems, to demonstrate the WebSI technology, and to ensure market needs feedback.

Objectives:
WebSI (Data Centric Web Services Integrator) introduces a combination of innovative abstractions, technical solutions, interfaces, components, and design tools to support the business sector in the building of ASP-based applications as composed Web services It is focused on new low entry cost technologies:
a design and development toolkit offering an easy-to-use graphical interface for the definition, invocation, and presentation of Web services;
a service composition layer offering the compile-time primitives and run-time environment for integrating services as specified by the toolkit, as well as a focused environment for supporting active documents;
a data integration service allowing the gathering of integrated and enriched information from a distributed and secured environment. The design tool will enable users to develop their own applications "remotely", hosted in an ASP environment, and then possibly to deploy such applications in the hosting environment.

Work description:
The project aims at developing three suites of Java components to query heterogeneous data through XML views, compose Web Services through functional units, and design Web sites based on the two other suites. Integration of the three suites will be necessary to fully support the ASP business model. The applications will be designed in parallel with the suites development.

To achieve the multiple tasks, the work plan is divided into nine work packages:
Co-ordination and horizontal tasks:
WP1 Project Management Exploitation;
WP2 Exploitation and Dissemination Technology
technology;
WP3 Architecture Integration and ASP Infrastructure;
WP4 Data Integration;
WP5 Service Composition;
WP6 Design Tool and Presentation Layer Demonstrators
demonstrators;
WP7 Business Portal;
WP8 Tourism Services;
WP9 Selling Point Services.

Milestones:
The following milestones have been set to assure the right progress of the project:
M1 (month 6) : System architecture, User Requirements and Business Models for Applications;
M2 (month 12) : First version of software suites and design of applications;
M3 (month 15) : First version of integrated software suites;
M4 (month 18) :Beta version of the three demonstrators;
M5 (month 24) :Final versions of the integrated toolset and the three demonstrators.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
