Use of broadcast AUDIO to assist mobile Internet interaction

Objetivo

Xaudio is a system that can create a world where any radio broadcast of interest can be used to take the listener directly and automatically to a relevant web page or a mobile application via their mobile phone, without the need for tedious browsing. Xaudio will make use of the ubiquity of 2.5G and 3G enabled mobile telephones to provide: compelling services for consumers, new business opportunities for radio broadcasters and increased traffic for mobile operators.

Objectives:
This project intends to conduct a trial of Xaudio in order to explore the impact that such a novel method of using mobile services will have on:
the presentation of content;
the provision of m-commerce;
the programming of broadcast material;
interactive applications and services;
roaming and billing.
A generic business model has been developed to exploit this technology in an innovative way. The business model involves commercial radio broadcasters, mobile phone operators, the Xaudio Service Provider, and of course the listening public. It also allows for further m-commerce, marketing, promotional and entertainment relationships to be established between broadcasters and third parties such as advertisers, brand owners, content providers.

The new businesses that can be enabled by Xaudio will include:
interactive advertising;
interactive music;
interactive news and public service;
interactive promotions;
interactive competitions.

The trial will investigate the impact that Xaudio enabled Internet access will have on business relationships, content preparation and presentation, as well as testing Xaudio Interactive Services in real world situations. The aim is to have a commercial Xaudio service ready for when the critical mass of Xaudio capable phones arrives.
Xaudio has major advantages for two business sectors that are experiencing major growth, radio broadcasting and mobile communications providers.

Work description:
In order for these trials to produce meaningful and useful results, it is important that the content of the trials is as close to real world commercial services as possible. This means that it is important to determine the context and the content of the trials thoroughly beforehand.
Equally, it is important to determine and define methods of measurement and assessment of the trial results before the trials begin.

The project therefore consists of three main phases:
1. Preparatory analysis and definition phase: this will analyse and produce relevant plans and specifications that will inform subsequent work by providing frameworks and requirement specifications;
2. Implementation phase: this will involve the implementation of all trial software, systems, applications and content required for the trials, based on the requirement specifications defined in the previous phase;
3. Trial and evaluation phase: the trials will be carried out and the results evaluated.

Milestones:
Project Plan;
Business Model;
Requirement Specifications;
System implementations and web content;
User Studies and usability assessment;
Technical Performance assessment.
