Objective
To succeed in the global competition European industry has to improve its product creation processes by applying information society technologies. Focussing on this aim ViP-RoaM develops a vision on Virtual Product Creation technologies and methodologies and defines a strategic roadmap for RTD activities for the next 5-10 years. This ensures a precise and synergetic use of RTD resources. The development of the roadmap is based on a comprehensive collection and integration of information gathered from industrial key players and research organisations. Business implementation paths and integrating scenarios will be derived to enable European industry to set up and follow a strategy for future product creation procedures based on innovative technologies and to be competitive in international markets.
OBJECTIVES
This project aims at defining a Virtual Product Creation strategy that enables European industry to improve their product creation processes and consequently to be successful in international markets. The proposers gather their strategic knowledge to emerge a vision on the progression of Virtual Product Creation technologies and methodologies for European manufacturing industry. Starting from this vision a strategic roadmap will be set up that describes necessary RTD activities for the coming 5 to 10 years along with a concerted RTD implementation path. This will be based on the contribution of identified key players in Europe, and reconciled with industrial needs by discussion with potential industrial stakeholders about essential innovations in central areas in manufacturing and IT solution providing industry.
DESCRIPTION OF WORK
The work performed within the project is divided into the following domains:
1. Requirements and vision elaboration This workpackage has to deliver a comprehensive description of the relevant key players, co-operation structures, involved processes and technologies as well as the identification of RTD demands. To reach this aim efficently, a combinatioin of desk research and workshops involving representatives from all different interest areas will be performed. The field of research is devided into three areas of interest: Process Integration, Innovative Applications, and Technical Infrastructure. A catalogue of requiremetns and questions will be created which will have to be answered and condensed to a vision upon the future of Virtual Product Creation.
2. Development of a roadmap The technological and structural requirement on future RTD activities in Europe have to be transferred into a viable roadmap. Suitable milestones of research and development have to be elaborated. This workpackage will generate: an outline of a general vision on product creation for European automotive and aerospace industry, a roadmap (specification of a RTD agenda for the next 5 to 10 years, derivation of business implementation paths), a definition of benchmarking procedures. Workshops will be performed in order to integrate all stakeholders expertise. The workshops will be preceded by a questionnaire survey to collect input from preferable large number of interested parties.
