Positioning Studies Synergism Dissemination and Exploitation

Objectif

The overall objective of POSITION is to create synergy between European projects dealing with positioning technology, through the cross-fertilisation of results. Through a pragmatic four-step approach, POSITION will provide an initial point of reference for projects, to more easily establish the state-of-the-art. This will save time and effort, allowing the consortia to focus on the research safe in the knowledge that their efforts are less likely to be a duplication of previous or on-going efforts. It will add synergy to the individual dissemination and exploitation activities by harmonising information on market knowledge, economic drivers and competing products. It will also offer a repository for information of the needs of the end-user. POSITION will facilitate the progression of DG INFSO's programme into the 6th Framework Programme.

Objectives:
The overall aim of POSITION is to create synergy between European projects dealing with positioning technologies, through the cross-fertilisation of results. In this context, POSITION has two objectives.
The first objective is to promote awareness of the results of positioning-related studies to a wider European audience by facilitating co-ordinated dissemination activities. POSITION also maximises the exploitation of results from current positioning-related European projects;
The second objective is to make a significant contribution to the planning and implementation of the 6th Framework Programme, by establishing constructive and practicable recommendations derived from an analysis of the results and activities carried out within POSITION, and the exploitation of the results of the selected positioning related projects.

Work description:
In addition to the usual management activities, the work undertaken within POSITION is split into four main work packages:
WP1 "Selection": In this work package the projects and activities dealing with positioning are identified. A set of selection criteria are developed and applied to these projects and those most relevant and appropriate selected. These criteria and the subsequent project selection are then agreed with the European Commission;
WP2 "Analysis": In this work package, the first step is to identify the exploitation information and support requirements of the selected projects, by establishing, for example, the scope and type of information needed, how it can be best presented and at what phase of the project. The next step is to determine to what extent these needs can be fulfilled from the selected projects and then to identify sources of supplementary information, such as public domain data from other projects or activities. The final step in this work package is to create and populate a database that enables project to monitor the dissemination of targeted information;
WP3 "Dissemination and Awareness": This work package focuses on the dissemination of positioning-related information on technologies, applications and services collated during WP2 to two types of customer: targeted dissemination within the selected projects, and broad dissemination to support a wider European audience, particularly the end-user community.
WP4 "Assessment and Exploitation": This work package contributes to future positioning-related activities by identifying further activities that could be carried out within the 6th Framework Programme. This will be achieved through an assessment of the exploitation plans of the other considered projects and an analysis of POSITION's results.

Milestones:
WP1: Establishment of the list of projects and activities relevant to POSITION activities (Deliverable D1, at Month M2);
WP2: Dissemination Plan (Deliverable D2, at Month M4; Updates at Months M12 and M18) and database;
WP3: Dissemination document (Deliverable D3 at Month M24; Draft at Month M12) reporting all the dissemination actions performed during the project, as well as a web site, brochures, presentations, posters;
WP4: Assessment Report (D4.1 at Month M24; Draft at Month M12) and synthesis of Exploitation Plans (D4.2 at Month M24).

Champ scientifique (EuroSciVoc)
