Object Rich InformatiOn Network

Objective

The main objective of the ORION proposal is to form a Network of leading experts, which will examine the business and technological landscape in the museum environment and the supporting educational & scientific communities, with the aim to identify technology paths that will allow electronic, yet realistic, representation of museums' physical resources, easily and effectively accessible from the wider public community. The ultimate goal of the Network is to define a Research Roadmap for the implementation, application and use of emerging technologies to support and enhance 3D literacy, learning processes, creativity and cultural promotion to the benefit of a wide constituency of users including those involved in education, design and industrial fields.

Work description:
The work plan is organised in such a way as to support incremental network evolution and expansion, staged introduction of deliverables, evaluation and refinement based on user feedback and project progress assessment. It is organised around the following WPs:
WP1-Project Start up: Establishment of the Network's Working Groups, collaboration terms, assignment of duties and responsibilities;
WP2-Analysis of current practices and needs: Survey for the identification of technology domains to be examined, definition of the main requirements, current limitations and future opportunities in the creation and distribution of 3Dresources;
WP3-Technology Review: Identification of trends; analysis of emerging technologies; provision of prototype technical solutions to identified problems; benchmarking different relevant practices and processes across Europe; provision of profit and no-profit models;
WP4-Evaluation and Assessment: Consolidation and synthesis of findings from the research activities into a concrete offer to the museums environment, which will provide a state-of-the-art picture of the creation and distribution of 3D resources in Europe along with a Research Roadmap and associated implementation models for the development, application and use of 3D technologies in Europe;
WP5-Dissemination: Diffusion of project ideas, facts and findings to all interested parties, especially policy makers, at local, regional, national and EU level, while gathering and collecting business requirements;
WP6-Project Management: Ensure conformity to Project Plan and Quality procedures, efficient collaboration among partners and network expansion.

Milestones:
M1 Working Groups set up, Month 2M2 Report on current practices and needs, Month 6M3 Report on scientific/technological trends and platforms, Month 6M4 Research Roadmap, Month 9 & 12M5 Final conference to present project results, Month 12.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
