Objective
OMNIPRES seeks to:
1) support R&D projects with cross- project theory and measurement integration;
2) develop a cross project Presence theoretical and measurement model;
3) maximize the impact of the FET Presence Research Initiative on the international presence research community, HCI community, and the EU Presence technology R&D, manufacturing, and services community.
OmniPres' experienced Presence Research Teams will provide:
1) open, WWW- accessible models;
2) integrate the theory and measurement work of the Presence Initiative to provide "the big picture" on the causes, dimensions, and correlates of presence;
3) spearhead the diffusion of results. OMNIPRES seeks to:

OBJECTIVES
Advances come from integrating presence engineering, theory & measurement. Many good projects may seek to 'engineer presence' (e.g. interfaces, services). Unfortunately, they may be:
1) less focused on theoretical understanding of the causes and correlates of presence;
2) limited to too few variables to fully explain how the engineering is advancing;
3) evaluation may not be independent or rigorous.
OMNIPRES will be looking at the initiative as a whole to compare presence performance across the cluster and across the disciplines. The project objectives are:
1) Project-Wide Theory and Measurement Support. Integrated technology assessment, evaluative, and measurement support;
2) Project Wide Models, Metrics and Comparisons: Overall comparison of the relative effectiveness of technological developments on telepresence and social presence;
3) Presence Theory and Measurement Integration: Theoretical integration spanning design and measurement across all Presence Research projects.
DESCRIPTION OF WORK
The OmniPres Team will provide a theory and measurement service function to the Presence Research Initiative as a whole helping individual project success but, more importantly, increasing the theoretical integration, measurement validity, and larger R&D impact of the initiative.
OmniPres will:
1) Presence compendium: Develop a full, comprehensive compendium of presence-related measurement tools;
2) Community building: Lead and actively participate in theoretical and measurement integration meetings and discussion forums, including:
a) site visits; b) bi-monthly Net Meetings and Teleconferences; c) a theory and measurement meeting; d) theory and measurement rapporteur functions at the key Presence Initiative meetings;
3) Create a Web based EU Presence Research Support Centre;
4) Create and update a comprehensive Presence Theory and Measurement Model that integrates advances across projects. Disseminate Presence Initiative Findings in a comprehensive book to be published at the end of the three year presence initiative.

Topic(s)
Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
