Objective
Cooperative research project on components moving windows and shading devices a utomatically optimising comfort for each room (smart windows) Daylight manag ement + solar gain regulation + natural ventilation regulation. => 2 strategie s to achieve the results: - Using industrial small motor connected to P.V. pan els - Shape memory alloy assisted or not. These systems are acting through an intelligent regulator to be developed. => Economical goal to achieve is to pr oduce an automatisation for half European market price, because the present hig h price cost restricts the market. => Environmental impact can be very large: reducing solar gains for most European countries to minimise or avoid the use o f air conditioning systems (SMART WINDOW). => Actual market for such automatis m devices can be estimated with following data: - amount of shading units sold by Bomin: 2 000 m2 / year - amount of shading units sold by Soliso: 160 000 m2 / year - amount of windows sold by Fima: 146 800 unit / year => Rese ch program consists of 5 phases: 1 - Guide-lines 2 - Systems simulations 3 - Prototypes making 4 - Testing 5 - Pre-production design, fabrication and tes ting Research establishments - prime research establishments: - Ecole des Mines - ARMINES (FR) - University of North London - LEARN (UK) - Athens Unive rsity - NKUA (GR) SME's: - ArchiMEDES (FR) - I.S.T. (DE) - SOLISO (FR) - BOMIN (DE) - FIMA (FR) - large enterprise but 480 employees
