Gasification test results for various biomass fuels at the novel fixed-bed gasifier and gas cleaning data obtained with a nickel-monolith cracking unit

Before starting this project, VTT and Condens Oy had invented a new type of fixed-bed gasifier, which is based on forced fuel flow and consequently allows the use of low-bulk-density (100-200 kg/m3) fibrous biomass residues. The product gas of this gasifier has a relatively low-tar content due to optimized gasifier design. In the project, a pilot plant was constructed and operated with different wood residues. The nominal design capacity of the pilot plant was 300 kWth. The gasifier was connected to a secondary tar-cracking reactor, which is based on using nickel-monolith catalysts.
