An increasing number of European electricity utilities and private investors are now entering the wind energy market. To date these organisations have provided the turbine manufacturer with their own specifications for machinery supplied. The guidelines developed during this project give minimum requirements for use by project developers when drawing up their specifications. Electricity utilities and private investors are becoming increasingly active in the wind energy market and are undertaking the establishment of their own wind farms. To date these organisations have been presenting their own technical specifications for the supply of their machinery. No common guidelines exist for the drafting of specifications for technology suppliers. This project aimed to develop a set of commonly agreed minimum requirements which can be used by utilities or private investors as a basis when drawing up their specifications. The project aims to compare the experiences and views of four European utilities with regard to the requirements that should be included in specifications issued to manufacturers for the supply of wind energy generators. The outcome will be a handbook publicly available as a common reference.
