Objectif
An integrated system for the exploitation of daylight as a source of energy will adapt and respond to the variable needs of the occupants and climatic conditions. As well as providing daylight, it will harvest solar radiation, store and distribute it in various and variable ways.
In current buildings, daylight, especially as a source of energy is not exploited to it's full potential. The mechanisms of daylight control, appear archaic when compared to other state of the art control systems integrated into the built environment. The wall is no longer passive - it is a dynamic membrane. It has to be capable of not only harvesting energy from the sun but also of distribute it. Therefore the infrastructure of this new system is critical to it's successful performance. Natural organisms show various ways of achieving this and provide a basis for any new technology.
