Competition among European students for the design of solar buildings

Objective

EUROPEAN STUDENT'S COMPETITION FOR A SOLAR HOUSE
The purpose of this competition is to promote, through an European competition, research on "pilot buildings" using renewable energies (sun, Wind etc.) for the internal comfort, together with a rational use of building materials so as to optimize performance from the energy, environment and economy points of view.
The present proposal concerns a competition among students for the design of three buildings, located in .... The competition will be open to students of the European Community.
The choice of the sites underlines the character of respect of the environment that the design must have, and requires utilization of renewable energies in a context of a substantial and formal merging and integration with the surrounding environment.
The architectural quality of the project will be assessed by a jury of renowned architects, selected for the purpose by the faculties of Architecture of the Universities of Rome, Athens and Stuttgart. The Italian Institute of Architecture will supply its collaboration and ENEA the scietific support.
Six months are foreseen for
a) organization of the competition
b) preparation of the information on the selected sites
c) diffusion of the initiative throughout Europe by means of seminars, round tables and through the press.
Six months will be allocated for the elaboration of the projects by the partizipans. A standard simulation code will be used, together with a set of parameters specified in the call for tenders, to check the energy performance of the buildings. -
