European solar prize

In order to promote the use of renewable energy and to provide widespread information on the different forms of application, the European Solar Prize was established on behalf of the European Commission, under the JOULE programme. The European Solar Prize was established under the JOULE programme in order to promote public awareness of solar energy and through this, promote the market introduction of solar energy in Europe. The prize was awarded on behalf of the European Commission, during two years, 1994 and 1995, in seven counties, Austria, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Italy and the United Kingdom and in seven categories. These categories were, cities and municipalities or utilities, industrial or commercial enterprises; owners or operators of applications for renewable energies; local or regional associations promoting renewable energy projects; solar architecture; media, and a special award for transportation systems operated by renewable energy.
