Objective
Deep underground gasification of coal
The french project is aimed at the gasification of deep lying coal which is not accessible to conventional mining. Gegs's long term objective is to bring into operation an industrial production process for sng (36 10exp. 6 j/m3). To get a gas of this quality. A primary underground produced gas with a medium calorific value (11 x 10exp. 6 j/m3) has to be converted to methane on the surface. This primary gas can be obtained with oxygen and steam as gasifying agents.L%
Two main tests carried out in Bruay-en-Artois (78-81) and Haute Deule (82-85) have provided some important results:
- adequate well fittings and valves exposed to severe pressure variations
- possibility to link by hydrofracturing
- easy ignition of coal with an electric heater
- difficulties to carry reverse combustion according to spontaneous combustion problems at the injection well
- possibility to prevent spontaneous combustion with an injection gas of low oxygen content.
These tests have not reached the final phase (gasification).
In a parallel sport test in a very shallow seam of the Loire coalfield, another linking method electrolinking has been tried. The results being successful, the coal seam has been open-casted to back check the results of the linking test.

Topic(s)
Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.
