Recycling of textile fabrics coated with PVC or TPU (thermoforming-polyurethane)

Objective

Every year more than one hundred million square metres of coated and uncoated textile products are produced for the automobile, building, footwear and furniture industries. The amount of technical scrap from production and clothing is more than 10,000 tons/year. In addition between 30,000 - 50,000 tons of recyclable and already-used products can be collected each year.

This project's target is the recovery of production scrap and used products from textile fabrics coated or laminated with PVC (polyvinyl chloride) or TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane). This should be done by reconditioning and separating combined materials using chemical and physical processes.

Previous dumping of the above mentioned scraps can be reduced to 90-96%. In so doing, the materials are cut into pieces of 40-100 mm. These pieces are processed into a pumpable mash in which the components are separated by certain biologically degradable chemicals. The chemicals are later to be extracted from the process. This process ends with the extrusion or agglomeration of the separated plastics.
