Local Participation in Sustainable Forest Management based on Landscape Analysis

Objective

The Swedish National Board of Forests is the beneficiary for this project which is carried out in collaboration with the Finnish Forestry Development Centre Tapio and a number of regional forest centres. The project aims to integrate environmental and landscape aspects into forestry development, particularly with respect to small private holdings.

Methods and models will be developed at five locations in Sweden and Finland representing different ecological, economic and social conditions. The project will gather experience from cooperation between the local forest authorities and forest owners and other concerned organisations. The project will furthermore develop model and software for participatory landscape analysis. A reference group which includes the Danish and British national forest authorities will assist the project and provide a wider perspective of forestry development.
