Objective
The aim of this project is to demonstrate the technical and economic feasibility of a Waste Oil Regerneration Plant, based on a novel technology that recovers all valuable components of the used oil, particularly the base oils, with a high level of environmental protection.
The objective of the project is to demonstrate, at full scale, the technical and economical feasibility of a new technology for the regeneration of the waste oils used in Spain and other European countries of similar characteristics. The technology is based on a process of three steps: the first one is the separation of the contaminants from waste oil by propane extraction, the second is vacuum distillation, and the third one consists of a redistillation and decolorant clay treatment, in order to obtain as a main product lubricant bases that comply with the market standards for this material. As a result, a higher level of environmental protection is achieved, by providing the best possible destination for the waste oils. Furthermore, it is a clean technology producing minimum wastes and emissions, and it also saves natural resources in a strategic sector (petroleum). It solves a problem experienced in all European Union countries and contributes to fulfill the European Union Policy (Directive 75/439/CEE) of great interest for the European Union. Ecolube S.A. is today a 100% subsidiary firm of Sener, but it will incorporate as partners other European and Spanish firms (public and/or private), maintaining always Sener a majority in the company. The technology to be used has a clear innovative character which improves the results of other regeneration technologies and can be promoted in other European Union countries. The project is of a competitive nature and has considerable economic potential, once its feasibility is demonstrated at industrial scale. The proposed technology has already passed the research and partial demonstration phase, but the process has not yet reached the phase of full exploitation in any of the member states. It shows a satisfactory cost benefit ration, both from the economic and environmental points of view.
