Analyses and comparison of assessment methods related to industrial pollution of water in the countries forming the Meuse watershed: Belgium, France, Germany and the Netherlands

Objective

Census in four countries: Germany, Belgium (Flanders and the Walloon region), France and the Netherlands, of the methods used for assessing industrial pollution in each country. This census will be carried out over the Meuse river basin and will lead to proposals in order to define efficient methodologies and to develop them in common.

The purpose of the project is to contribute to the implementation of the community policy and legislation in the environmental field by a joint research launched by three countries on the assessment of industrial pollution, using the Meuse River as investigation field.

The technical purpose of the project is to draw up an inventory of the effective methods used for evaluating point sources of industrial pollution for water and the search for propositions of development to find a common approach.

1. An inventory and the comparison of the assessing methods used in each country
2. Justification of the relevancy of each parameter
3. Guidelines for implementation
4. Trends observed in utilization (pas and new trends)
5. Parameters and toxicity
6. Discussions and criticisms based on some examples
7. Automonitoring: origin, purpose of field analyses and function
8. Propositions for a common approach.
