Objective The aim of the MAIS project is to foster the deployment of multilingual enquiry systems, providing voice-controlled access to information and transaction services. The project will design a telephone-based information system for public transport, with a fully interactive, user-friendly interface. A mock-up demonstrator covering French, Dutch and English will be developed and field-tested. The demonstrator will offer substantial gains in usability and functionality as compared to current menu-based enquiry systems, and will stimulate a demand for other related applications. The long-term goal of the consortium is to build multilingual information and transaction systems for transport and other services, which can then be used in their own language by European citizens in all countries. The consortium comprises national railway companies, technology providers, and public research centres.
