UPGRADING OF VARIOUS WASTE PAPER GRADES AS FIBER MATERIAL FOR PAPERPS WITH HIGH DEMANDS ON BRIGHTNESS AND CLEANLINESS

Objective

TO PRODUCE HOUSEHOLD TISSUE AND GRAPHIC PAPERS FROM OFFICE AND HOUSEHOLD WASTE.

THE PROJECT WILL COMMENCE WITH A STUDY OF THE AVAILABLE WASTE GRADES IN THE NETHERLANDS AND GERMANY. HAVING CHARACTERIZED THEM, IT WILL BE DEVELOPED ON A LABORATORY SCALE PARAMETERS OF WASHING AND DISPERSION METHODS FOR TREATING THESE MATERIALS. AN IMAGE ANALYSER (DEVELOPED DURING AN EARLIER DG 12 PROGRAMME ON DEINKING) WILL BE USED TO QUANTIFY THE RESULTS. MECHANICAL CLEANING SYSTEMS WILL ALSO BE EXAMINED.
TRIAL WORK WILL TAKE PLACE AT THE CELTONA TISSUE MILL IN THE NETHERLANDS. AS TOILET TISSUE BY ITS VERY NATURE, IS NEVER RECYCLED, THE CURRENT PRACTICE OF MAKING THE WHITER GRADES FROM VIRGIN PULP, CAUSES CONSIDERABLE LOSSES TO THE COMMUNITY. REPLACEMENT WITH WASTE PAPER WOULD BE OF GREAT BENEFIT.
