DURABILITY AND PRESERVATION OF SPRUCE.

Objective

TO EXTEND THE USE OF SPRUCE THROUGH IMPROVED PRESERVATIVE TREATMENTS WITH PARTICULAR ATTENTION TO METHODS OF TREATMENT FOR GREENWOOD.

THE PROJECT WILL BE DIVIDED INTO 3 AREAS:

1) DEVELOPMENT OF THE ACCELERATED DIFFUSION METHOD: THIS TREATMENT METHOD HAS BEEN FOUND TO GIVE VERY GOOD PENETRATION OF PRESERVATIVES INTO GREEN SPRUCE IN LABORATORY STUDIES. FURTHER RESEARCH WILL CONCENTRATE ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF A SCIENTIFIC/TECHNICAL DATA-BASE TO SUPPORT PRACTICAL USE OF THE METHOD.

2) EVALUATION OF ALTERNATIVE "GREENWOOD" TREATMENT METHODS.

3) COMPARISON OF DECAY RESISTANCE OF SPRUCE WITH SPRUCE TREATED BY CONVENTIONAL METHODS (1 & 2 ABOVE).
THE PERFORMANCE OF THESE TREATMENTS WILL BE DIRECTLY COMPARED TO EQUIVALENT ASSESSMENTS OF THE EFFECTIVENESS OF CURRENT CONVENTIONAL TREATMENT METHODS FOR SPRUCE. PARTICULAR ATTENTION WILL BE FOCUSED ON DETERMINING THE EFFECT OF DEPTH OF PRESERVATIVE PENETRATION ON THE COLONISATION AND ATTACK OF THE SPRUCE SAMPLES BY WOOD-DECAYING FUNGI WHEN THE SAMPLES ARE EXPOSED IN SOIL BURIAL.
ESTIMATION OF EXPECTED SERVICE LIFE OF THE DIFFERENT TREATMENTS WILL BE BASED ON THE COMBINED RETENTION, PENETRATION AND MICROBIOLOGICAL ASSESSMENTS.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
