Objective
DETERMINATION OF CHARACTERISTIC VALUES OF MECHANICAL PROPERTIES AND DENSITY OF PINUS PINASTER SAWN TIMBER FROM PORTUGAL AND SPAIN.
- SAMPLING.
THIS OPERATION WILL BE CARRIED OUT BOTH IN PORTUGAL AND SPAIN AT A NATIONAL LEVEL, COVERING THE DIFFERENT REGIONS AND CONDITIONS, WHICH CAN PRODUCE DIFFERENCES IN THE MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF THE TIMBER. THE SIZE AND NUMBER OF SAMPLES WILL BE ESTABLISHED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE WORK AND EXPERIENCES CARRIED OUT IN FRANCE WITH THIS TIMBER.
- TESTING AND ANALYSIS OF DATA.
TESTING SHALL BE CARRIED OUT IN ACCORDANCE WITH ISO 8375 (STRUCTURAL SIZE). A CRITICAL SECTION SHALL BE SELECTED IN EACH PIECE OF TIMBER.
THE SECTION IS THE POSITION AT WHICH FAILURE IS EXPECTED, BASED ON A VISUAL EXAMINATION AND ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. FOR EACH SAMPLE WILL BE DETERMINED : CHARACTERISTIC BENDING STRENGTH, MEAN VALUE OF MODULUS OF ELASTICITY (E), CHARACTERISTIC DENSITY, TENSION PARALLEL TO THE GRAIN, SHEAR STRESS AND MODULUS OF STIFTNESS (G). COMPRESSION AND TENSION PERPENDICULAR TO THE GRAIN WILL BE CALCULATED ACCORDING TO THE DENSITY.
- EVALUATION OF RESULTS.
ALL THE SAMPLES (FULL-SIZE) TESTED, WILL BE GRADED ACCORDING TO THE FOLLOWING STANDARDS :
- NEW STANDARD NZS 3631 FRENCH METHOD AND EUROPEAN STANDARD (KAR METHOD);
- COMPARING THE DIFFERENT YIELDS AND CHARACTERISTIC VALUES OBTAINED.
A WRITTEN REPORT GIVING DETAILS OF THE POPULATION, SAMPLING, TESTING, ANALYTICAL PROCEDURE AND CALCULATIONS WILL BE PREPARED FOR CONSIDERATION AND FOR INCLUSION IN EUROCODE 5.
