Objective
TO COORDINATE THE R&D WORKS IN DENMARK AND THE NETHERLANDS, AND TO DEVELOP SPECIFICATIONS AND GUIDELINES FOR THE USE OF RECYCLED DEMOLITION WASTES AS AGGREGATES IN STRUCTURAL GRADE CONCRETE.
DEMOLITION MATERIALS FROM THE EC COUNTRIES WILL BE COLLECTED, ANALYZED AND DESCRIBED. A SURVEY OF THE QUANTITATIVE APPEARANCE OF THESE MATERIALS WILL BE PERFORMED.
MATERIALS FROM DENMARK, HOLLAND AND THE UK WILL BE SELECTED AND FORM THE BASIS MATERIAL FOR A STUDY ON THE CONTENT OF IMPURITIES AND THE EFFECT ON CONCRETE OF SUCH A CONTENT.
THE PRODUCTION COSTS WILL BE STUDIED AND THE ECONOMICAL ASPECTS ON A NATIONAL SCALE WILL BE INVESTIGATED. IT IS UNDERSTOOD THAT AS NATURAL RESOURCES ARE LIMITED IN SOME COUNTRIES WITHIN TH EC AND ABUNDANTLY PRESENT IN OTHER REGIONS, A GREAT DIFFERENCE IN PRICE LEVEL OF SUCH MATERIALS MAY BE EXPECTED INDICATING DIFFERENCES IN VIABILITY FROM AN ECONOMICAL POINT OF VIEW.
THE APPEARANCE OF ALKALI-SILICA REACTIVE MATERIALS AND THE CONTENT OF CHLORIDE WILL BE STUDIED, AND THE EFFECTS OF THESE IMPURITIES IN HIGH QUALITY GRADE CONCRETE BE DESCRIBED.
BASED ON THESE INVESTIGATIONS IT IS THE INTENTION THAT MAXIMUM LIMITS FOR IMPURITIES SHALL BE SPECIFIED AND RECOMMENDATIONS FOR USE IN CONCRETE FOR STRUCTURAL PURPOSES SHALL BE WORKED OUT.
ALL TESTING OF MATERIALS WILL BE SUPPLIED WITH ANALYSIS BASED ON FLUORESCENS MICROSCOPY OF THIN SECTIONS.
FULL SCALE TEST STRUCTURES WILL BE ESTABLISHED IN HOLLAND AND IN DENMARK.
THESE STRUCTURES WILL BE MONITORED FOR A PERIOD EXCEEDING THE DURATION OF THIS PROJECT.
FOLLOWING THE COMPLETION OF THE R&D ACTIVITIES, SPECIFICATIONS FOR THE APPLICATION OF RECYCLED AGGREGATES IN CONCRETE OF DIFFERENT GRADES WILL BE PRODUCED AND A REPORT ON THE R&D ACTIVITIES SUBMITTED.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
