COMPUTER AIDED DESIGN OF UNDERGROUND METALLIFEROUS-MINING-LAYOUTS.

Objetivo

THE AIM OF THE PROJECT IS THE DEVELOPMENT OF A COMPREHENSIVE COMPUTER AIDED METHOD FOR PLANNING UNDERGROUND METALLIFEROUS MINES. CURRENTLY, RELEVANT EXPERTISE IS AVAILABLE IN TERMS OF COMPUTER WORK STATIONS, GEOSTATISTICS, MINING METHODS SELECTION FOR VARIOUS GEOLOGICAL ENVIRONMENTS, THE ROCK MECHANICS ASPECTS OF EXCAVATION DESIGN AND SUPPORT, AND THE PLANNING AND CONTROL OF MINING OPERATIONS. THIS PROJECT WILL DEVELOP A MEANS OF INTEGRATING EXISTING KNOWLEDGE AND TECHNIQUES INTO A MINE PLANNING METHODOLOGY WHICH OPTIMIZES THE TOTAL SYSTEM.
Decreasing metal deposits and a competitive market environment force the European Mining Industry to improve their economic efficiency. Without any doubt the contribution of new and existing computer technology to the mine planning process is of vital importance to the overall economy of developing and subsequently operating an underground mine. Work has therefore been directed to the development, integration and application of a computerised planning system built on a modular structure for underground base metal mines.

The primary pbjective of the project has been the development, integration and application of a planning software for underground base metal mines in an interactive workstation environment.
The system design provides different computer application programmes, hereinafter referred to as modules, each related to a specific mine planning or modelling function. Referring to this function the modules incorporate basic calculation routines as well as more sophisticated algorithms. Each module forms a semidependent entity, capable of running as stand alone tool when required.
However, to address a problem under study in greater detail and to extend the reliability and efficiency of the solution process the user can take great advantage from the interaction structure of the modules. All information gathered and processed by one of them as well as their results are accessible for all related modules within the entire system on user's request.
In order to reflect the complex structure of underground mining the following important areas of mine planning developed into operating modules: geometry/geology module, rock mechanics module, geostatics module, economics module and production scheduling and sequencing module.
During the execution of this research project a sound scientific basis has been elaborated and a new prototype system for mine planning, design and geological interpretation is available.
THE PROJECT WILL HAVE IMPORTANT ECONOMIC BENEFITS BECAUSE IT WILL ENABLE AN OPTIMIZED MINING PLAN TO BE DEVELOP FOR A PARTICULAR OREBODY. ALTHOUGH THE TECHNIQUES TO BE DEVELOPED WILL BE DIRECTED TOWARDS CERTAIN ECONOMICALLY IMPORTANT TYPES OF UNDERGROUND METALLIFEROUS MINE, WITH SUITABLE MODIFICATION THEY COULD BE APPLIED TO ALL MINES AND TO ALL MINERALS, INCLUDING INDUSTRIAL MINERALS, AN IMPORTANT CLASS OF PRIMARY RAW MATERIAL. THE WORK WILL NOT ONLY OF DIRECT BENEFIT TO MINING OPERATIONS IN EEC COUNTRIES BUT WILL PRODUCE COMPUTER PACKAGES THAT COULD BE SOLD WORLDWIDE.

A METHOD OF COMPUTER AIDED UNDERGROUND MINE DESIGN AND PRODUCTION SCHEDULING WILL BE DEVELOPED BY ESTABLISHING FIVE MODULES EACH DEALING WITH ONE OF THE KEY AREAS IN THE TOAL MINE PLANNING PROCESS. EACH MODULE WILL BE DEVELOPED INITIALLY AS AN EXPERT SYSTEM IN WHICH EXISTING KNOWLEDGE AND TECHNIQUES WILL BE BUILT INTO AN EASILY USEABLE SUITE OF COMPUTER PROGRAMS. THESE PACKAGES WILL BE DESIGNED FOR IMPLEMENTATION ON MICRO-COMPUTERS SO THAT THE PROGRAMS CAN BE USED AT MINE SITES. IN A SECOND PHASE OF THE PROJECT, THE MODULES WILL BE LINKED TO FORM A COMPREHENSIVE DESIGN SYSTEM.
