COMPUTER AIDED SELECTIVE PRODUCTION PLANNING FOR COMPLEX OREBODIES.

Objective

THE AIM OF THE RESEARCH IS TO PROVIDE THE MINING ENGINEER WITH POWERFUL TOOL ASSISTING HIM WITH SHORT TERM TO MEDIUM TERM PRODUCTION SCHEDULING.
The goal of this project was to construct software tools to aid exploitation of subterranean and open mines. A concept has been developed for use in short term planning. This concept may serve as a reference and may be used whilst tools are constructed or techniques defined.

The research work done during the project has defined the following elements: the short term requirement for production and operation management is to translate the technicoeconomical objectives into every instant basic mining operations and by doing so solving the allocation of available resources to the mining process; and the planning process is very dynamic because its results are to be used on an online basis on the production so as to keep control on the production by providing an up to date plan which can be followed.
The project has issued the following techniques and basic algorithms: a rule based combination controlling technique for open pit geometrical area selection; a multicriteria operation research technique to compute the progress in vein mining and a priority definition rule based system to sort the different conflicting objectives; and a mine operation sequencing tool solving the problem of resources allocation under constraints with use of rule based heuristics. These techniques are to be considered as a toolbox. To implement a short term planning system it would be necessary to capture the rules to be used in each basic tool.
A PROLOG interpreter completely interfaced with the standard C language has been built. This interpreter is an excellent tool for development purposes because of its facility to handle the captured rules.
The last facility is to deal with geometry elements which are the basic items used in mining (orebody, drifts and tunnels, benches and roadways, etc). The computer system developed for this purpose handles the graphical aspects and more advanced features on geometrical objects with the vital facility of allocating quality and quantity information to each object.
ON THE TECHNICAL AND ECONOMICAL SIDE, THE REALISATION OF A COMPUTER AIDED SYSTEM FOR THE PLANNING OF THE EXPLOITATIONS OF THE COMPLEX DEPOSITS COULD LEAD AT BETTER, FASTER AND MORE SELECTIVE MINE OPERATIONS.

THE STUDY WILL CONCERN THE CASE OF TYPE SUBVERTICAL MINES AND EXPLOITATION OF OPEN PIT MINES.

THE FOLLOWING STEPS WILL BE CONSIDERED :

1) SYSTEM SPECIATIONS : THIS WILL CONSIST OF DETERMINING HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE SPECIFICATIONS.
2) PROGRAMMING : THIS WILL COVER :
A) BASIC TOOLS;
B) DATA ACQUISITIONS;
C) DISPLAY SYSTEM DEFINITIONS;
D) PRODUCTION PLANNING AND MINE SIMULATION
3) EVALUATION : TESTING OF THE SYSTEM ON REAL EXPLOITATIONS AND EVALUATION OF RESULTS.
