Objective
THE COLLECTION AND MANAGEMENT OF THE DATA RELATING TO THE INFORMATION ON THE MINES, EQUIPMENT CHARACTERISTICS AND INFORMATION ON THE SUPPLIERS OF EQUIPMENT SHOULD ENABLE A SYNTHETIC PRESENTATION OF THE SITUATION OF THE EUROPEAN SMALL MINES TO BE OUTLINED WITH A MORE ACCURATE KNOWLEDGE OF THE NEEDS OF THESE MINES.
THE DEVELOPMENT OF A NEW DRILLING MACHINE ADAPTED TO THE SMALL MINE ENVIRONMENT SHOULD ENABLE TO IMPROVE THE OVERALL PRODUCTIVITY AND MINING CONDITIONS IN THESE MINES, THANKS TO THE INTRODUCTION OF MECHANIZED METHODS OF MINING.
The collection and interpretation of data on mines has allowed a more accurate determination of the needs of small European mines. New drilling machinery has been developed for these environments, thereby improving mine productivity and conditions.
This project has been structured around 3 tasks.
The first task is dedicated to an analysis of small mine equipment. More precisely, data obtained on European small scale mining has been presented, including information on geology, mining techniques, equipment characteristics and suppliers. The equipment currrently supplied has been analyzed which establishes a kind of state of the art for small mine equipment. Finally, the needs for specific equipments for small scale mines was evaluated. The second task is aimed at the study of the structure of the market of equipment, with a special reference to the relationships between suppliers and mining companies and to the secondhand market. The last task concerned the proposal and study of a new multipurpose machine, the microjumbo (for drilling, bolting, scaling, etc). The past difficulties (positive and negative elements of the existing vasting devices) have been analyzed. The technical specification are given of the microjumbo (referring to the previous analysis and to the results of the 2 first tasks). A set of engineering results and tests of the future microjumbo are proposed. This project is concluded with a first economical analysis of the future market for the microjumbo. The results obtained in this research work can be of great importance for a small scale mine. Simple calculations, based on the microscoop experience, show that the productivity would be equivalent but with much smaller stopes, that is to say with much higher selectivity.
THE PROJECT CONSISTS OF TWO MAJOR RESEARCH AREAS, THE FIRST ONE IS A GENERAL INVESTIGATION INTO THE PRESENT STATE OF THE ART FOR SMALL MINES EQUIPMENT, THE SPECIFIC NEEDS OF SMALL MINES AND THE STRUCTURE OF THE MARKET WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO THE SUPPLY OF SECOND HAND EQUIPMENT; THE SECOND ONE IS THE DEVELOPMENT OF A DRILLING MACHINE, WELL SUITED TO SMALL MINE ENVIRONMENT TO BE USED FOR BLASTING AS WELL AS BOLTING PURPOSES.
IN THE FIRST PART OF THE RESEARCH, INFORMATION ON SMALL MINE EQUIPMENT WILL BE GATHERED THROUGH A LARGE NUMBER OF VISITS TO MINES AND MANUFACTURERS; THIS INFORMATION WILL BE STORED IN A MICRO COMPUTER DATA-FILE WITH AN ADEQUATE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM.
IN THE SECOND PART, FOLLOWING AN ANALYSIS OF THE PAST DIFFICULTIES, A PROTOTYPE WILL BE DEFINED AND BUILT, IN SITU TRIALS WILL BE CARRIED OUT IN A SMALL TALC MINE, CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS WILL BE DRAWN.
