Objetivo
To develop a system for controlling stability based on sophisticated techniques such as acoustic emission, georadar, photoanalysis and calculation of block stability using 3-dimensional calculation programme. The research will aim to reduce the thickness of the crown pillars, facilitate the working of the barier pillars and optimise the use of support cables (Sotiel mine).
The research will comprise the following phases.
Phase 1 is the evaluation of the overall stability by means of acoustic emission techniques operating in real time on data analysis and by evaluating the response of the rock to normal working. The acoustic emission technique must register a response from the rock which is consistent with the progress of the excavations and the actual stability observed.
Phase 2 is the evaluation of the local stability in 5 stages.
Geotechnical characterization of the rockmass.
Evaluation of fracturing using photoanalysis and radar techniques. The systems developed must rapidly obtain reliable data on the spatial development of the discontinuities in the rock.
Integration of the rock mass data by computer. The task will be to represent, using a computer with sophisticated graphics, the spatial distribution of the discontinuities, determining the typology of unstable blocks.
Development of a calculation model (3-dimensional block theory) to optimize the density of the cables. The model should be able to handle all data obtained from measurements and tests and calculate the behaviour of the rock before and after the installation of the supporting system.
Development of an integrated computerized system designed to function with minimum human intervention to assure local stability.
In phase 3, the systems developed for the evaluation of the overall and the local stability will be installed in the mine for the final test and the final adjustments.
Phase 4 is the final joint report.
