Exploitable results

Summary: The aims of TASC were to improve understanding of the ecology of C. finmarchicus in the North East Atlantic and to compare these results with those of studies carried out in other regions of the North Atlantic. The main reasons for studying Calanus finmarchicus are (1) the occurrence of C.finmarchicus throughout the North Atlantic ocean, and (2) the contribution of the species to the zooplanktonic ecosystem in each of these regions and particularly to the biomass available to planktivorous fish and fish larvae. Three model concepts were produced. HAMSOM covers the hydrodynamic for the North Sea and shelves around the British Isles). POM covers the Norwegian Sea/Barents Sea. SINMOD is a physical-biological coupled model that covers the Norwegian Sea and the Barents Sea.
