Objective
Objectives:
A long term objective has been formulated: to realise a North Sea monitoring system based on fixed monitoring networks as a contribution to an integrated European marine monitoring and forecasting system.
Contents:
The MAST programme is supporting the SeaNet workshop: a workshop on fixed monitoring networks in the North Sea region. More specifically, the objectives are: promotion of on line data exchange between fixed monitoring networks, standardisation of data collection and processing methods, cooperation in the development of new measuring techniques and sensors, and testing of existing sensors, exchange of experience in data communication, exchange of experience in data collection, particularly on fixed structures.
The SeaNet workshop took the initiative to investigate the feasibility and to define a plan to realise the integrated use of fixed monitoring network data around the North Sea. This resulted in a plan for a Marine Monitoring System 2000+ (MMS2000+). To accomplish such a monitoring system SeaNet will: - survey the needs of end-users of information and opportunities for fixed monitoring network agencies around the North Sea,
- define a system based on the integrated use of national networks and integration of monitoring and modelling techniques, - facilitate the technological developments needed to establish such an integrated system,
- organise the implementation of a marine monitoring and forecasting system for the North Sea region.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
