Objective
The Community Bureau of Reference (BCR) supplies samples of reference materials, primarily for use in calibrating measuring equipment. Following depletion of stocks of reference cokes manufactured in the 1970s, further coke samples have been manufactured, but before they can be used as reference samples their properties must be ascertained in this certification programme.
The project covering the certification of ash, carbon, hydrogen, sulphur, phosphorus contents and the caloric values of the four reference cokes will be carried out by 11 laboratories from 10 Community countries. Once the composition of the cokes has been certified, samples of the cokes will be available on a commercial basis to laboratories for the calibration/checking of their analytical equipment or techniques.
