INFLUENCE OF MECHANICAL AND CHEMICAL TREATMENTS ON THE ENERGY CONSUMPTION UNDER FATIGUE OF WOOD

Objective

UTILIZING A SOPHISTICATED MECHANICAL TESTING SYSTEM, THE ENERGY CONSUMPTION UNDER PLASTIC DEFORMATIONS OF WOOD WILL BE STUDIED UNDER CONDITIONS SIMULATING DEFIBRATION. THUS BY CONTINUOUSLY REGISTERING THE CHANGES IN MECHANICAL PROPERTIES, THE ENERGY PUT INTO THE WOOD AND THE ENERGY ABSORBED DURING FATIGUE OF THE WOOD, THE WORK NEEDED TO STRUCTURALLY CHANGE THE WOOD CAN BE QUANTIFIED.

THE EFFECT ON ENERGY CONSUMPTION OF LOADING MODE OF VARIOUS COMBINATIONS OF SMALL AND LARGE SCALE DEFORMATIONS WILL BE INVESTIGATED AND OPTIMIZED WITH RESPECT TO TEMPERATURE AND FREQUENCY. FURTHERMORE THE FOLLOWING CASES WILL BE STUDIED:

- EFFECT OF COMBINATION OF VARIOUS AMPLITUDES

- EFFECT OF MECHANICAL PREDESTRUCTION

- EFFECT OF CHEMICAL ENVIRONMENT, PH, ION STRENGTH

- EFFECT OF CHEMICAL PRETREATMENTS

THE CHARACTERIZATION OF THE STRUCTURAL CHANGES OF THE FIBRES DURING REFINING IS OF VITAL IMPORTANCE IN UNDERSTANDING THE EFFECT OF THE MECHANICAL REFINING ACTION. THESE CHANGES INCLUDE INCREASED FIBRE FLEXIBILITY, CHANGES IN SPECIFIC SURFACE AREA AND INCREASED SWELLING ABILITY.

IN ORDER TO CORRELATE THE FIBRE SEPARATION AND THE FIBRILLATION OF THE FIBRE WITH AN EFFECTIVE ENERGY CONSUMPTION, THE FOLLOWING PHYSICAL PROPERTIES WILL BE STUDIED:

- SPECIFIC SURFACE AREA
- ACCESSIBILITY
- FRACTURE SURFACES
- ADHESION PROPERTIES

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
