Objective
DEVELOPMENT OF A COMBINED ROASTING/LEACHING PROCESS FOR ECONOMICAL SEPARATING OF COPPER, LEAD, ZINC AND NOBLE METALS FROM COMPLEX SULPHIDIC ORE.
/
THE COMPLETE PROCESSING ROUTE FOR COMPLEX PYRITES IS UNDER CONSIDERATION WITHIN THIS RESEARCH PROJECT. THE ROASTING STEP HAS TO BE CARRIED OUT IN SUCH A WAY AS TO ENSURE THAT COPPER AS WELL AS ZINC CAN BE LEACHED WITH THE HIGHEST POSSIBLE YIELD. THE REMAINING RESIDUE AFTER LEACHING OF THE ROASTED PRODUCT, THE LEAS SULFATE WITH THE NOBLE METALS (E.G. SILVER), CAN BE FURTHER TREATED BY WELL-KNOWN THERMIC PROCESSES.
THE SOLUTION, FREE OF LEAD, HAS TO BE TREATED FOR COPPER REMOVAL. FOR THIS PROCESS STEP WE HAVE FORESEEN THE PRECIPITATION OF COPPER AS SULPHIDE, USING ACTIVATED ZINC BLENDE. THERE ARE TWO ADVANTAGES IN USING ZINC BLENDE FOR COPPER PRECIPITATION.
- THE PRECIPITATION REAGENT IS A PART OF THE COMPLEX FEED ORE
- NO FOREING INGREDIENTS ARE INTRODUCED INTO THE PROCESS.
THE LIQUOR, NOW FREE OF COPPER, HAS TO BE TREATED FOR IRON REMOVAL.
TBIS IS ACHIEVED, AFTER OXIDATION, BY PRECIPITATION WITH ROASTED PRODUCT.
FINALLY THE REMAINING ZINC SULFATE SOLUTION IS ELECTROLYSED, PRODUCING ZINC CATHODES AND SPENT ELECTROLYTE, BEING RECYCLED TO THE LEACHING STEP.
LABORATORY TEST WORK
WE INTEND REALIZING OUR PROCESS PROPOSAL IN OUR RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT CENTRE USING THREE COMPLEX ORES WITH DIFFERENT CONTENTS OF THE MAIN COMPONENTS.
THE MAIN PURPOSE ARE:
A) HOW WE CAN GET A ROASTED PRODUCT, AS FAR AS POSSIBLE FREE OF SULPHUR, THAT IS LEACHABLE WITH THE SPENT ELECTROLYTE OF A ZINC ELECTROLYSIS WITH THE HIGHEST POSSIBLE YIELD;
B) THE LEACHING CONDITIONS OF THE ROASTED PRODUCT AND THE FILTRATION BEHAVIOUR OF THE RESIDUE,
C) THE FLOTATION OF A PURE SINC BLENDE FROM THE COMPLEX ORE AND ITS PULVERISATION UNDER ACTIVATING CONDITIONS (I.E. VARIATION OF THE ENERGY INPUT),
D) THE KINETICS OF THE REACTION OF ZINC BLENDE WITH COPPER,
E) THE PURIFICATION OF THE ZINC SOLUTION, E.G. REMOVAL OF FE, CU, ETC.
F) THE BEHAVIOUR AND THE INFLUENCE OF THE SECONDARY INGREDIENTS AND THE TRACE ELEMENTS, SUCH AS E.G. AS, GA, GE, IU AND TNE NOBLE METALS.
ENGINEERING WORK
THE RESULTS OF THE LABORATORY TEST WILL BE USED FOR A FINAL PROCESS EVALUATION.
THIS MEANS, FOR A CERTAIN CAPACITY, E.G. 100.000 TPY OF ZINC, WE WILL DETERMINE THE INVESTMENT AND OPERATING COSTS, ALLOWING US TO ESTIMATE THE ECONOMICS OF THE PROCESS.
