GRAVIMETRIC SEPARATION OF ORES IN THE 2.0-0.1 MM FRACTION BY MEANS OF HEAVY MEDIA

Objective

DEVELOPING OF AN ECONOMICAL PROCESS TO UPGRADE BY MEANS OF HEAVY MEDIA THE FRACTION 2.0-0.1 MM.

WITHIN THE SCOPE OF THE RESEARCH PROGRAMME OF THE EUROPEAN COMMUNITY NO.003-79-7 MPP D "GRAVIMETRIC SEPARATION OF ORES IN THE 2.0-0.1 MM FRACTION BY MEANS OF HEAVY MEDIA CYCLONE "THE APPLICANT WAS ABLE TO BUILD UP A PILOT PLANT FOR THE GRAVIMETRIC SEPARATION OF ORES BY MEANS OF HEAVY MEDIA IN THE 0.8 MM SIZE RANGE WHERE THE SEPARATION OF THE MEDIUM SOLIDS IS EFFECTED ONLY BY MAGNETIC SEPARATION SYSTEMS.

TEST WORK HAS SHOWN THAT SEPARATION IN THE CYCLONE UP TO 0.2 MM AND POSSIBLY EVEN UP TO 0.1 MM, CAN BE ACCOMPLISHED AT A HIGH PRECISION OF SEPARATIO, AND THAT THE REGENERATION OF THE MEDIUM SOLIDS BY MAGNETIC SEPARATION IS PRACTICABLE, WHICH MEANS THAT THE OBJECTIVE AIMED AT FOR THE FIRST PART, HAS BEEN ATTAINED. FURTHER TESTS WILL HAVE TO BE CARRIED OUT FOR A FINAL JUDGMENT OF THE SEPARATION PROCESS.

IN DETAIL, FIVE ORE TYPE PRODUCTS WILL HAVE TO BE TESTED, AS, FOR INSTANCE, PRE-CONCENTRATION OF COMPLEX SULFIDE ORES OF THE RAMMELSBERG TYPE, NIOBIUM/TANTALUM ORE, HEAVY SPAR (BARITE), FLUOR SPAR, CHROMITE, SCRAP AND OIL SHALES/OIL SAND, WHERE FROM FIVE TO EIGHT INDIVIDUAL TESTS ARE INTENTED TO BE CONDUCTED FOR EACH PRODUCT. IN ADDITION, SOME TESTS WILL HAVE TO BE RUN WITH THE NEWLY DEVELOPED TR-FLO WHICH IS USED IN A MANNER SIMILAR TO THE CYCLONE.

AFTER COMPLETING THE TESTS, AN ECONOMY CALCULATION OF THE SEPARATION METHOD EXAMINED, WILL BE MADE AND CONPARED WITH OTHER PROCESSES.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
