DIRECT LEACHING OF PYRITIC COMPLEX ORES WITH SELECTIVE DISSOLUTION OF NON-FERROUS METALS

Objective

SELECTIVE RECOVERY OF NON-FERROUS METALS (PB, CU, ZN, AG) CONTAINED IN A PYRITIC MATRIX BY LEACHING IN AN AQUEOUS MEDIUM.

AMONG THOSE ORES, WE CAN CITE :

- BODENNEC - PORTE AUX MOINES - ROUEZ (FRANCE)

- MEGGEN (WEST GERMANY)

- SOTIEL, THARSIS (SPAIN)

- ALJUSTREL, NEVES (PORTUGAL)

THE STUDY IS ONLY CONCERNED BY DISSOLUTION AND IS DIRECTED IN TWO WAYS :

- IN THE EVENT OF ORES WHERE EVERY NON-FERROUS METAL CANNOT BE COLLECTED BY CONVENTIONAL PHYSICAL METHOD, A COMPLETE DISSOLUTION OF THOSE METALS IS RESEARCHED; ONLY PYRITE REMAINS UNATTACHED IN THE RESIDUE.

- MANY ORES PRESENT THE SPECIFICITY TO ALLOW A GOOD YIELD OF RECOVERY BY FLOTATION FOR CHALCOPYRITE (CUFES2) AND BLENDE (ZNS), AND A POOR YIELD OF RECOVERY FOR GALENE (PBS) AND ASSOCIATED SILVER. IN SUCH CASES TESTS WILL BE CARRIED OUT, TO OBTAIN A COMPLETE AND SELECTIVE DISSOLUTION OF LEAD AND SILVER. THE LEACH RESIDUE, CONTAINING UNATTACKED PYRITE, BLENDE AND CHALCOPYRITE MAY FURTHER BE TREATED BY CONVENTIONAL FLOTATION. THE OBTAINED MARKETABLE ZINC AND COPPER CONCENTRATES ARE SUITABLE TO BE TREATED BY EXISTING INDUSTRIAL SMELTERS.

THE OXIDIZING REAGENTS USED FOR LEACHING ARE FERRIC OR CURPIC IONS IN CHLORIDE MEDIUM.

IN THE MEANTINE, FRENCH B.R.G.M. WILL TEST OXIGEN AND FERRIC IONS IN SULPHATE MEDIUM.

TESTS WILL BE CARRIED OUT EITHER IN CONVENTIONAL AGITATED TANKS OR BY HEAP LEACHING .

THE RESULTS OF THE LABORATORY AND SMALL PILOT STUDY WILL BE SCALED UP ON A TEN TONS COLUMN, LOCATED IN THE B.R.G.M. FACILITIES (ORLEANS, FRANCE)

THE STUDY WILL END BY AN ECONOMIC EVALUATION AND THE RESULTS WILL BE COMPARED WITH CONVENTIONAL ROUTES.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
