STRUCTURAL, GEOCHEMICAL AND SUBSURFACE APPLICATIONS OF REMOTE SENSING TO HIDDEN DEPOSITS.

Objective

THE AIM OF THE PROPOSAL IS TO EVALUATE OVER A MINERALIZED PROVINCE THE INTEREST OF THE COMBINATION OF TWO REMOTE SENSING TECHNIQUES : I.E. VISIBLE MULTISPECTRAL AND THERMAL INFRARED. PREVIOUS WORK CONCERNING RELATIONS BETWEEN VEGETATION, SOILS AND ROCKS HAVE GIVEN ENCOURAGING PRELIMINARY RESULTS OVER THE MASSIF CENTRAL (FRANCE).

APPLICATION OF VISIBLE AND THERMAL REMOTE SENSING TECHNIQUES TO THE SEARCH FOR HIDDEN ORE DEPOSITS IN THE ARMORICAN MASSIF BY REFERENCE TO INDIRECT EFFECTS OF SUB-SURFACE STRUCTURAL GEOLOGY AND GEOCHEMISTRY.

THE AIM OF THE PROPOSAL IS TO EVALUATE OVER A MINERALIZED PROVINCE THE INTEREST OF THE COMBINATION OF TWO REMOTE SENSING TECHNIQUES: I.E. VISIBLE MULTISPECTRAL AND THERMAL INFRARED. PREVIOUS WORK CONCERNING RELATIONS BETWEEN VEGETATION, SOILS AND ROCKS HAVE GIVEN ENCOURAGING PRELIMINARY RESULTS OVER THE MASSIF CENTRAL (FRANCE).
IN THIS PROVINCE, PROCESSING OF MULTITEMPORAL LANDSAT IMAGES HAS ENHANCED A REFLECTANCE ANOMALY RELATED TO A HIDDEN MINERALIZED LEUCOGRANITE (AS, LI, W, ZN). THE SAME STUDY SHOWS A REMARKABLE CORRELATION] BETWEEN A REFLECTANCE ANOMALY OF A FOREST AND A LIMEAMENT PATTERN (ECHASSIERES).

ON AN OTHER HAND, THERMAL INFRARED INVESTIGATIONS CONDUCTED WITH AIRBORNE AND SPATIAL DATA (HCMM) HAVE DEMOSTRATED THE EXISTANCE OF:

1. TEMPERATURE TRANSFERS FROM UNDERGROUND, MAKING POSSIBLE THE DETECTION OF NEAR SURFACE VEINS (LE VANS),

2. INTERACTIONS BETWEEN ROCKS, DUE TO CERTAIN PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS (POROSITY) AND VEGETATION MAKING POSSIBLE THE DETECTION OF NEAR SURFACE STRUCTURES (COAT AN NOZ),

3. DIFFERENT THERMAL SIGNATURES AS A FUNCTION OF THE LINEAMENT NATURE,

4. THERMAL ANOMALIES NOT RELATED TO RELIEF, LITHOLOGY AND VEGETATION COVER.

STATISTICAL APPROACH OVER THE MASSIF CENTRAL (FRANCE) AND THE MASSIF ARMORICAIN HAVE ALSO DEMOSTRATED THE EXISTENCE OF A CORRELATION BETWEEN CIRCULAR STRUCTURES, LINEAMENTS VISIBLE ON LANDSAT IMAGE AND ORE DEPOSIT DISTRIBUTION.

THE STUDY WILL BE CONCENTRATED ON THE MASSIF ARMORICAIN (FRANCE), FOR TESTING THE REPRODUCTIVITY OF THE METHOD. A SECOND GOAL IS TO EXPLAIN SOME THERMAL DIFFERENCES AS A FUNCTION OF OCCURRENCES DISTRIBUTION, AND TO EVALUATE HOW THE RESULTS CAN BE IMPROVED BY A COMBINED APPROACH.

SPOT SIMULATIONS WILL BE REALISED FOR THE SAME SITES IN ORDER TO APPRECIATE THE VALUE OF THESE DATA THEIR POSSIBLE CONTRIBUTION AS METHODOLOGY TO LANDSAT AND THERMAL IR DATA.
