CRITERIA FOR THE APPLICATION OF LOOSE AND CEMENTED FILL IN MINING TO IMPROVE SAFETY AND RECOVERY.

Objective

IMPROVEMENT OF SAFETY AND RECOVERY IN MINING WITH LOOSE FILL AND CEMENTED FILL METHODS.

THE AIM OF THE PROPOSED RESEARCH IS TO FIND THE CRITERIA TO CHOOSE THE FILLING METHODS THAT ALLOW BOTH MAXIMUM ORE RECOVERY AND MAXIMUM PRODUCTIVITY, IMPROVING FURTHERMORE THE STABILITY AND THE WORKING SAFETY.

THE RESEARCH PROGRAM COMPRISES TWO PARALLEL, BUT CONNECTED STUDIES, CARRIED OUT BY THE ARMINE OF THE ECOLE NATIONALE SUPERIEURE DES MINES OF PARIS (FRANCE) AND BY THE INSTITUTO DI ARTE MINERARIA DEL POLITECHNICO DI TORINO (ITALY).

BASED ON PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE ON ITALIAN MINES, THIS STUDY WILL BE DEVELOPED AS FOLLOWS :

1ST STEP : A BIBLIOGRAPHIC RESEARCH, AIMED TO THE COLLECTION OF CASE HISTORIES OF LOOSE OR CEMENTED FILL MINING OPERATIONS, AND TO THE RATIONAL ARRANGEMENT OF THE DATA AT HAND.

2ND STEP : COMPLETION OF THE RESEARCH STEP 1, BY COLLECTING THE MISSING DATA WITH DIRECT ACCESS TO THE MINES AND LABORATORY AND IN SITU TESTS ON FILLING MATERIALS

3RD STEP : PHYSICO-MECHANICAL CHARACTERIZATION OF THE FILLS PRESNTLY EMPLOYED, AND OF THE ROCKS SURROUNDING THE MINING STOPES; GEOCHEMICAL TESTS IN SITU AND IN LABORATORY TO ASSESS THE STRENGTH OF THE ABANDONED SUPPORT STRUCTURES, DURING THE EXCAVATION WORK

4TH STEP : PREPARATION OF A MATHEMATICAL MODEL, BASED ON THE DATA OBTAINED IN THE PROCEDING STEPS, FOR THE STUDY OF THE STATICAL BEHAVIOUR OF THE FILL AND OF THE INTERACTION OF THE FILL WITH THE SURROUNDING ROCK.

6TH STEP : EXPRIMENTAL APPLICATION OF THE RESULTS OF THE RESEARCH IN PILOT STOPES, TO ASCERTAIN THE RELIABILITY OF THE CONCLUSIONS, AND TO DEFINE THE CRITERIA FOR THE APPLICATION OF THE METHOD.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
